Oh man, remember when I was trying to do weekly recaps of Da Bureau shows??? Wow, what an impossible bar that was to try to set for myself. Anyway, it’s now been 10 months since the last post on this website, and a lot has happened and is about to happen! For instance, I (this is Allen btw, hi!) have been on an improv hiatus since my second child was born in April (which is a big part of why there hasn’t been a blog update since last October). But I’m working on getting back into things, and what better way than by telling you about all the cool stuff we have coming up!
Da Bureau Sketch Show!
First of all, Da Bureau wrote a sketch show, and it’s going to be up at Go Comedy Improv Theater in Ferndale Every Wednesday in August at 7:30PM. This show is called Da Bureau has Something to Say!
The beloved and bewildering improv troupe Da Bureau has something to say in their new sketch comedy show, “Da Bureau Has Something to Say”. This hilarious group will tell you just what’s on their mind with scenes featuring hungry big boys, advertising pitches, reality show dating, lactose-based poetry, and one very big bed—all told in the stinky, spicy, smut-covered voice of Da Bureau.
Go Comedy
We’ve been working hard bringing this show to life and cannot wait for you to see it. I will sadly not be performing in it due to aforementioned baby hiatus, but I did write a bit that’s going to be in it that uses AI voice cloning, that I think will be a lot of fun! But big news is that OG The Bureau member Jess, who had stopped doing improv shows with Da Bureau due to life constraints of her own, has rejoined Da Bureau to write and act in this show! Very excited to have her back with us again!
We also are very stoked to have Travis Pelto as a director! Travis is a hilarious writer, director, and performer who has been making us crack up in his duo troupe Forever Fifteen for years, so to have him direct us is a big honor.
So come on out every Wednesday in August (of 2023) at 7:30pm and get ready to laugh! Tickets available at links below!
Da Bureau is closing Homecoming at Go Comedy
If you have not heard, Go Comedy theater has been struggling lately. After the pandemic things didn’t recover the way they were expected, and they got behind on rent. Luckily the community came together and got them through that bit of rough patch, but in order to keep the theater running they need asses in seats! So to help do that, Go Comedy is putting on an event called Homecoming week. As the Detroit Improv Festival is not happening this year, this is essentially a weeks worth of great shows that brings some big names into town. This year the festival headliners will be Jaimie Moyer and Marybeth Monroe, who have been on a lot of your favorite TV comedies from the past decade.
Da Bureau will be both opening and closing the week of festivities, opening with our sketch show on Wednesday, and then closing the launch group reunion on Sunday! We’re very excited to be a part of this and hope you can come out to see something! Check out https://www.gocomedy.net/homecoming for showtimes and tickets!
Miranda is Leaving for School :'(
Now on to some happy/sad updates. The happy is that Miranda got into grad school where she will be learning all sorts of awesome stuff about set design, and continuing on the journey she started here in Detroit making amazing sets for theaters like Planet Ant and the Ringwald. The sad is that she will be leaving Michigan, and thus is on a mega-hiatus from Da Bureau. We are all very proud of her accomplishments and excited for her future, but sad that we will not get to play with her anymore. We’ll miss you!
Jenny is 10 years Cancer Free!
Hey if you see Jenny, wish her a happy 10 years of Remission! Jenny is a badass improviser who kicked cancer’s ass, and also just made it into the Go Comedy Resco understudies. So actually, give her a DOUBLE congrats!
Da Newest Member of Da Burea
Oh, did you think I wasn’t going to sneak in a picture of my adorable son in here? You’re nuts! Look at this face and tell me you wouldn’t go on an improv hiatus to be with him!
But the title of first little Smock to play with Da Bureau goes to his sister, who I brought to a rehearsal back in February. She plays an incredibly cute lawyer!
Keep Calm and Bureau On
That’s all the updates I’ve got for now! I’m going to try to do an ultimate recap of all the Thursday Throwdowns I can find records of in another post, but for now I just want to say THANK YOU. Thank you to all of the people who have come out and supported us, all of the theaters who’ve believed in us enough to give us regular stage time, all the stage managers who’ve kept our shows running, and our coach Coach, who never stops coaching. We’re going to keep on Bureau-ing on as long as we can!
Love,

P.S. I don’t know how to do SEO so I just had a robot write a bunch of bullshit and am sticking it below. If you are not a computer you can stop reading now.
